“Mad Max” Sequel
“Mad Max 4″ is under way thanks to filmmaker George Miller who is about to start filming the sequel later this year. Miller directed the first three Mad Max films and will partially direct the fourth film in the series.
For those of you wondering, no Mel Gibson will not be in the fourth film. Miller believes Gibson is too old and would have no interest in starring in the film. Gibson had played the hero in the first three films.
“I have a few projects in the pipeline including an animation…but I want to do another Mad Max movie and get stuck back into that…It won’t be Mel. He was 21 when he made the first one, now he’s a lot older and his passion is for filmmaking and directing. I don’t think he is into acting and I don’t think he would be interested in being involved at all.”
There was a time when Miller lost interest in making the sequel after his buddy/producer Byron Kennedy was tragically killed in a helicopter accident while scouting locations in Australia. So for this next film he Miller will direct the action scenes and director Greg Ogilvie will direct the rest. A title card at the end of the film is shown in remembrance of his friend, saying “For Byron.” The script that he was given for Mad Max 4 completely captivated him and inspired him to make the sequel.
